Boys Basketball wins.
Nuggets 85, Barnesville Trojans 72.

A Hawley-Barnesville matchup is always an intense one and Thursday night’s game was no different. This was the second HOL conference meeting between these two teams this season with the Nuggets winning the first. This time the two teams would face off on Barnesville’s home court.

The Nuggets controlled the tip and Leaf put two on the board with just seconds off the clock and the battle was underway. And a battle it was. By the end of the first half the Nuggets found themselves with a 13-5 foul disadvantage and Pekas on the bench having left the game at 9:26 with four of his own. Score at half was 29-25.

Nuggets put up a quick two to start the half and the Trojans answered right back. Hawley then went on a run with nice passes to take a 10 point lead with about 16 minutes to go. The Trojans pulled within six a minute later, but the Nuggets went up by 13 on a three by Harms with 13:39 to play. The Nuggets would lead by 17 with 8:30 remaining, but Barnesville fought back with hot outside shooting pulling within 10 several times and at 2:35 , a three by Barnesville sophomore Sogge closed the gap to seven with a score of 74-67. With both teams in the bonus, Leaf hit the front end of a 1:1 and Crompton grabbed the offensive board to give the Nuggets a 79-67 lead. Minutes later he grabbed another offensive board at the charity stripe to put the Nuggets up 81-69. Nuggets hold out to add another conference win 85-72.

Nuggets face the Crookston Pirates in a boys/girls double-header Saturday in Crookston.
